Academy of Christian Discipleship Presents "Movie Night"
On Sunday, Nov. 9, 6-9 p.m., you are invited to see and discuss the documentary film, Forgiveness. Produced by Journey Films, this documentary will be shown at a later date on PBS. The producer, Martin Doblmeier, will be with us to lead a discussion after the film. He will share the experiences he had interviewing those in the film, including Amish persons following the tragedy in Iowa, as well as family members of those lost in the September 11 Word Trade Towers disaster. We'll enjoy dessert and coffee together, also.
Bible 101: Introduction to the Old and New Testament
This fall Pastors John and Therese will be offering a basic course introducing the Bible each Thursday evening at 7:00 p.m. There have been many requests for an introductory Bible study, since many people have not had the occasion to learn the basic stories and themes of Holy Spripture. No previous knowledge is required, and there will be both lecture and discussion each week. The Fall session will cover the Old Testament; the Winter-Spring 2009 session will deal with the New Testament.
A sign-up sheet will be in the atrium and church office in the coming weeks. If you have questions, talk with one of the pastors. All that is needed is a Bible and a curious mind. The first class is on Thursday, September 11, at 7:00 p.m. in the Omega Room.
Bible 201: A Detailed Look at Jesus
This fall Pastor John will be offering a Thursday morning class for those interested in looking in greater depth at the life and ministry of Jesus. Using the book, Jesus, by Marcus Borg, the class will spend time on the Jewish background of Jesus, the way Jesus understood his own life and work, and how the church down through the ages has taught and proclaimed the wisdom and salvation we know in Christ. A fascinating study for those wanting to go beyond the basics.
A sign-up sheet will be in the atrium and office in the coming weeks. The class begins Thursday, September 11, 10:00 a.m. in the Omega Room.
